Legend
Like an angry swarm of bees,
growing angrier by the second,
mom canvassed the neighborhood,
calling out my name,
asking anyone she saw if
they had seen me.
It wasn’t that I was missing,
just that she thought I was.
Exasperated, she returned home,
bitching and complaining
to my younger sisters,
yelling and threatening to mete out
severe punishment when she found me!
My sisters laughed, only making it worse,
then finally told her:
"Mom, calm down. He is in his room,
in his bed sleeping!"
She just assumed,
never bothered to even look.
We laughed about it later
and it became one of those stories
mom always told,
until it became almost legendary.
