Sonnet XVII

Sonnet XVII
Responding to her call as she insists,
undulating like water-colored rain,
deliciously kaleidoscopic mist
encircles in safety, a hidden glade.
Promiscuous voices still taunt and tease,
entreating me to join their spiral dance.
Offered pleasures, inhibition’s release,
perfect love, perfect trust, I am entranced.
Lulled to listen to songs I can’t resist,
evening’s end, I concede, comes all too soon.
Surrendering once to Temptation’s kiss,
until next time, underneath a full moon.
Close the circle, as we share cakes and wine,
keep me in your heart, as you are in mine.
Five minus One

Five minus One
It’s like a horror flick,
Not Life or Death, but
CHOOSE!
You have five, choose!
Only one?
Yes, which one?
A fun, childhood game
of hypothetical choices …
only, sometimes, we do not get to choose,
no second chances,
no do-overs,
and no sequels!
Fairytale

Fairytale
I’m sure I’m not the only one
who’s ever thought of getting on a bus
and never looking back again.
Silly dreams of starting over,
some place new, where no one knows who I am,
where no one knows my past mistakes.
Where I can truly be myself,
where my demons can no longer find me,
maybe all things are possible?
But, everyone knows the truth, right?
We may not wish to admit it sometimes,
but life isn’t no fairytale.
Tanka On the Death of Winter

Tanka On the Death of Winter
Nothing but remnants,
reminders of its passing,
I will barely grieve.
No long eulogies or tears,
but please, do send me flowers!
It breaks my heart
24 March 2013
It breaks my heart
It breaks my heart when someone is in pain,
especially when I can’t break their chains.
Empathy is a wonderful gift, but …
if I only sympathize, you know what,
their pain and suffering tears me apart.
It breaks my heart.
Powerless caring seems like such a waste,
I want to give them hope, even a taste,
to say change is possible for them too.
Empowerment comes from within, it’s true,
but until they choose to make a new start,
it breaks my heart.
