Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

Sonnet XXVII

Sonnet XXVII

I tarnished my honesty, broke your trust,

by deceiving you and lying just once.

But my own guilt made me confess to you,

although I’m not quite sure what you will do.

I know it was wrong to do what I did,

and I’m sorry, I hope you can forgive.

I’d rather risk hurting you with what’s true,

than keep even one lie between us two.

If I have weakened what used to be strong,

and damaged what we have had all along,

our openness and our freedom to share

what hope do I have to ever repair?

it did happen once, but never again,

I couldn’t stand losing you my friend.
