Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

of beanstalks and broken hearts

of beanstalks and broken hearts

A tender heartbreak,

an arguable impossibility

despite an elementary hardline

A recursive incarceration,

self-inflicted, but willingly,

for no impenetrable armor

exists against love.

Fill-in-the-blank workbook

offers nothing but questions,

and sometimes I do not want

to know any answers.

I appreciate insecticides, fairytales,

and magic potions, but I still

get carsick with every stray,

involuntary thought of you.

And no beanstalk or trellis

will ever be high enough

to escape what I left behind.

And if my heart explodes

before I find my way back …
