Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

one poet’s creed

27 July 2013

one poet’s creed

there’s always someone better,

and always someone worse,

always someone we can praise,

and someone we can curse

the secret’s in the middle

I know where I belong

to rise to something higher

and help someone along

to always be teachable

to teach without conceit

I wish more believed this way

I don’t write to compete.

then what after what then

27 July 2013

then what after what then

what

happens when

no one listens to

our stories anymore, then

what?

Would

we just stop

telling them, even

to ourselves after that, what

then?

Hymn to Junk

27 July 2013

Hymn to Junk

I’d never get rich, however,

it’s hard to give away,

the stuff that fills my closets full,

I’ve saved just for someday.

But someday soon I’ll have to move,

I can’t procrastinate,

whatever junk I try to keep,

will just be extra weight.

Bag it, box it, haul it away,

as long as it gets gone,

I no longer care where it goes,

it’s not coming along.

Advisory

Advisory

Were I a remorseless storm,

I would rage and rage some more

destroying all in my path

never looking back.

honest to ghost

27 July 2013

honest to ghost

The crows, milling

about like horror

movie extras rehearsing

their lines, suddenly

shriek as one,

and make themselves

scarce. Rain approaches,

menacing, but vegetation

offers itself sacrificially,

rooted in its

own desperate need.

I wove a

spell. revisited on

unsuspecting shadows, those

hapless fools who

sneered and disbelieved.

The last. Unlocked

jail cells hold

only dust, memories,

the strength of

long ago and

far away … For

despite the drunken,

whispered tales, some

eroded ghosts still

tell the truth.

touch not my soul

27 July 2013

touch not my soul

Supple, subtle, soft, lips on skin,

teasing, tasting tongues, born to sin

willful, wanton, wiles coaxing me

hurried, honest hands, roaming free

anxious, aroused, ache once again.

burning, beast-like, bold eyes begin

craving, clawing, chained imprisoned

groaning, gasping, grind, you’re the key

touch not my soul

flaming, fingers, feel soul within

lustful, longing, looks unveiled, thin

yearning, yielding, yes, give, receive

passion, pulsing, pure hungry need

swirling, selfish sex cannot win

touch not my soul
