Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

violets before dandelions

violets before dandelions

(for The Sunday Whirl #126)

I’m too ecumenical, although

I suppose I could slather you

with sumptuous words, if only

I knew how to be manipulative,

to master the fine art of vacuous

inanities and somehow develop

a more vibrant vision of shallow

vivaciousness. I’m shy, not sassy,

sincere, not mellifluous, and short,

not in stature, but in verbosity. I

try to say what I mean, nothing more,

nothing less. I do not spread violets

before those holding dandelions, if

you get my meaning. I won’t play

games with my heart, or yours,

which might be why I am single.
