Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

Isabelle and the Squirrel (revised)

Isabelle and the Squirrel (Revised)

Outside the window in a tree,

the cat is drawn to look and see.

A conversation thus ensues,

I cannot tell if they’re amused.

gray squirrel chatters at the cat,

who’s frustrated and chatters back.

Each swishes tails in their own way,

as if inviting, “Come and play!”

I suspect this would not end well,

between Squirrel and Isabelle.

But one is free to come and go,

while one can only watch the show.

Soon the Squirrel scampers away

still safe to tease another day.

And Isabelle curls up to sleep,

I bet she is not counting sheep!
