Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

30 April 2014

Mildly nonsensical, Thoreau’s

“Moose … Indian …”

or witty, like Wilde’s

“Either this wallpaper goes or I do”

or any of many tear-jerker endings

such as “Goodbye” in white stones

from M*A*S*H’s

“Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen”

or that final page from the novel

you wished would never end,

or the farewell concert tour

of your favorite band,

at least until they reunite again.

and yet we learn, despite the tears

that all endings

are merely beginnings,

cherished memories carried along

into new tomorrows.

It’s not The Sound of Music,

no song and dance routine,

just the curtain coming down,

stage lights blackout,

no curtain call, no encore.

Thank you,

hope you enjoyed the show.
