Purple's Platitudes

nothing but words …

RePost: Memorial Day

13 May 2005

a strange and lonely procession,

parading down these empty streets

tossing penny candy to a faithful few

but I still stand, applaud and cheer,

scrambling to gather all I can hold

of gratitude, memories, and meaning

from passing ghosts among the living

who smile and nod and fade away

perhaps remembered for what they gave

at least on this Memorial Day …
